meet photographers, take photos

May 16th, 2008

Tomorrow is the Dublin Photomeet that has been hyped around the Irish blogosphere over the last few weeks. This will be the second photomeet I’ve attended in the last 2 weeks, and another planned in Belfast next week, then another in June…

“Flickr photomeets are the new camera clubs” – Davymac 2007

Last weekend’s photomeet in the city centre, was a lot of fun; small group, lots of photographs in some lesser spotted parts of town.

Meeting people through the internet, whatever the motivation, is indeed the new joining-clubs-at -community-centres. At the dawn of the interweb they said nobody would venture outdoors again. Friends will be made through myspace, new music found through myspace and lastfm, learning done on wikipedia, chatting done through instant messaging. But then came social networking, through tcp/ip, led to meeting real people, in real life. The internet is our friend.

So as I venture to the bright lights of the other capital city to meet more people from the ireland wide web of photo enthusiasts, I just hope the weather stays good.

And it was an absolute pleasure meeting you (and your very cool camera).

Thanks for the quote reference Phil, I should have patented that ;-)
As I said before this is not the ‘power of the Internet’ it is the power of the people using the Internet. As gapingvoid would say photography is the Social Object here.
It is fantastic though that a mere two weeks ago I didn’t know anyone in this network, now not only have I added them to my various web networks but actually met them in person, even had drinks with ‘em.
Again to quote gapingvoid: ‘Rock on’

It’s also got me out taking a hell of a lot more photos, always a good thing.
