midsummer’s gone

June 26th, 2008

Midsummers Day has come and gone (it was quite a long day at Barcamp) and so just another time of year to realise that time is moving far too quickly. I read recently that the reason time appears to move so fast – that life rushes by, leaving us saying all too often “where does the time go?” – is that as we get older we experience fewer big events and significant milestones as we do when we are younger.

As children (I guess through to late-teens too) there is so much learning of the world and ourselves. Many of us continue to learn, even though the number of major events become more sporatic. It can be disheartening. And so it’s for this reason I keep my free time as eventful as possible, particularly weekends. Increasing memories, eliminating that feeling of underachievement, meeting new people and of course taking photographs.

So the plan for the next few weeks:
Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th June - Belfast Maritime Festival
Friday 4th to Sunday 6th July - Cork
Saturday 12th July - BCBBQ (and general drinking through to the 15th)

The rest hasn’t been planned just yet, but will be good!

I read somewhere (citation required) that the reason time seems to move so quickly as we grow older is not because the world speeds up but we, as we begin to decay and die after the age of 21, slow down.

As infants and children, we’re moving at the same speed, if not faster than the aging of the world. But “world speed” remains constant and we simply begin to slow down gradually, thus our perception of a quickening pace.

Sounds like a good time to sip a whisky and let it pass me by…
