musical get-together

November 25th, 2008

Meet-ups and festivals and fund raising; helping each other out – people coming together to support the music.

The mentality will soon move away from that of “Oh us in Northern Ireland, rejected by all those around us *cries again*” as we begin to realise that we need to just start spreading the word about the great music being created here. Nobody is one day going to decide to look at N.I. separately from anywhere else out of sympathy.

If you are not in a band, why not check out some of the music being made – maybe start with my list from a few weeks ago,  take a listen to tracks tagged “Northern Ireland” on LastFM, blog about it, go to gigs, buy merch. Repeat.

If you are even further interested in local music then there are a variety of events to attend: two in the next two weeks:

Scratch My Demo at the Oh Yeah Centre, which has been running since October, this week with Boathouse:

It’s a way of helping artists to get feedback from their work with a short session. The idea is to road-test an idea or a piece of music and the audience give feedback there and then. Honest and constructive.

We’ll be playing a few new tunes that we’ve never played before to anyone! So we need YOU (yup – I just did that) to participate in a discussion about our music, direction, image or any other ideas you may have; basically you have your say!

There will also be a free copy of our EP ‘What I Remember’ for you as well.

Place: Oh Yeah! in Belfast
Date: Tuesday 25th November
Time: 7.30pm
Host: Steven Rainey

No admission charge! Free in & Free EP!
So please come along for the sight, the sound and the smells of Boathouse!

The second is a local music meetup:

A bunch of NI music industry people met up in The House in Stranmillis last Thursday after the NIMIC conference for a bit of chat and to get to know each other. Given the success of the first event and the interest in having them on a regular basis, we’re doing it again on Wednesday 3rd December at 6pm in the Black Box.

Anyone with an interest in music is welcome to come along and meet like minded people. The pizza oven will be on and the bar will be open as usual.

Wednesday 3rd December, 6pm.

It isn’t about a “scene” but helping each other out, as individual players in the local music industry.
