Based on the “Unconference” idea of a facilitated, participant-driven conference centred around a theme or purpose. Unconvention is a conference for musicians and those involved in the music industry to discuss how the current industry is driven and the best ways to succeed.
Currently there are almost 40 speakers and panelists and over 100 people registered to attend.
There are some seriously interesting panel discussions planned including Music in the Air: How Music is moving to “The Cloud”, What Makes Good Sync? and The End of the Middle Man: Are Band-to-Fan models the way forward?. Not to mention of course the open discussions which could lead to all sorts of messiness, and the usual “We’re in Northern Ireland and no one ever pays attention to us” talk.
Some artists find it hard to “network” with those in the industry, enjoying the “I’m an introspective artist” image, which is why an event such as this can be the best thing, with a relatively informal theme of participation without the barrier of entry, high costs, and hard to reach speakers.
