Barcamp Belfast 09
March 9th, 2009
I knew after last year’s success that BarcampBelfast09 would be even better. It isn’t for another 7 weeks, yet 134 have registered to attend with 25 speaking. If I remember correctly 100 of those registered after the first 2 or 3 days, by using only twitter to promote so far.

With the rising number of web and graphic designers sprouting up in Northern Ireland, as well as the recent launch of Digital Circle (congrats to the newly appointed Steering Group), the opening of Ireland’s first Apple Store, many new bloggers, as well as the uptake of twitter as an important and consistent method of communication and promotion on a personal level; regular open coffee meetings and various conferences, unconferences, tweetups, meetups and get-togethers – this year’s Barcamp is likely to have an impact on many of those who attend.
Essentially, if you have a personal interest in technology and the web and want to learn in an open environment then you should be there. Working? Book it off or call in sick!
I, for one, am pretty bummed that I won’t be able to attend this year. In saying that I probably shouldn’t profess to be too disappointed, I am Best Man to my cousin who is getting married to the beautiful Ira) on the same day in sunny Portstewart. An unfortunate clash of dates. But that’s life. There will be others.
