St Patrick’s Day in Dublin 2009
March 20th, 2009
Another brilliant [long] weekend in Dublin, possibly one of the best recently in terms of what I learnt and saw. Not that I learnt anything totally amazing, or saw anything truly unbelievable; its all about the little things.
Starting with the St Patrick’s Day Parade; this was my first time in Dublin (or the South of Ireland) on St Patrick’s Day. I met with Darragh at 9.30am on Parnell Square, feeling rather excited about the day ahead.
From the top of the Media Bus (with a variety of press photographers) the view wasn’t perfect, the fact that we were on a corner and few of the paraders liked to use whole road while going around the corner, meaning that they were pretty far away from the cameras – fewer wanted to look towards the double-decked bus with lenses pointing their way.
Small annoyance out of the way, I thoroughly enjoyed the day and the parade; as strange as it was: American Marching Bands, dancers, elaborate costumes, music and planetary oddities. Unexpected, though entertaining. Maybe I was expecting more green.
The weather could not be beaten though. Elly, Grannymar, Will, Jason and myself went for a pint and a bite to eat afterwards before heading on to the Guinness Storehouse to meet up with the other pix.ie photographers who were dotted along various locations on the parade route.

Thanks to Marcus and Pix.ie, as well as the St Patrick’s Festival for the passes and for putting on a great event. Many more of my images can be viewed on pix.ie.
