Belfast City Council takes further steps to cover flypostering
April 6th, 2009
I spotted this today in Belfast:

I have few words to say about this. Most of them expletives.
To me this is just plain maliciousness. Rather than tear them down, like normally happens a few times a week, they have decided to paint over them. If they want to ‘Keep Belfast Clean’ they should really think about doing something that creates the opposite effect.
This has been talked about many times before online (including local music forum Fastfude). The official stance is that the act of Flypostering is illegal within the city, yet the Council rarely attempts to suggest alternatives.
Yes, these posters all pasted on top of each other can look dirty and unsightly, yet those within the local arts and music communities, local promoters and the general public often rely on these areas as a source of information of upcoming gigs and events. Where are the alternatives (excluding online for now)?
