Belfast City Marathon 2009

As is customary on the May Day Movable Monday (love the term after reading it on wikipedia) Bank Holiday, the Belfast City Marathon took place today. Starting at 9am at the City Hall and finishing in the Ormeau Park, 17,000 people took part in the 26 mile race around the city.
2,900 people ran the full race, while there were another 2,300 walkers, 1,300 fun runners and 2,150 relay teams.
The race was won, for the third time, by John Mutai of Kenya, reaching the finish in 2 hours 17 minutes and 35 seconds.
The women’s race was won by another Kenyan, Joyce Kandia, finishing in 2 hours 47 minutes and 44 seconds.

I didn’t quite get to the bottom of it, but there was a Renault F1 Racing car at the finish line. I think it was just there to show off, as Renault are a sponsor of the event.
