Phoenix Park Deer
May 16th, 2009
I couldn’t believe it when Niamh turned around while driving through Phoenix Park, Dublin, along Chesterfield Avenue and said, “Look, deer”. She wasn’t wrong. There were lots and lots of deer. Everywhere. Or so it seemed in the dark light.
I was very excited at this sight. I had to get back in daylight. Soon.

That was the plan for last weekend and the weather could not have been better. Chris, Kate and myself headed out on the Luas on Saturday afternoon with the expectation of seeing lots of deer. Kate had her doubts. Admittedly I was very relieved, and excited, when they were spotted. I very quickly finished my ice cream and got the camera out.

Unfortunately an idiot let his dog off its lead and didn’t do a lot to prevent it from chasing the deer around the rugby field. That’s exactly what it did. Scared the crap out of them as he essentially ‘herded’ them like a sheepdog.

That incident aside (fun to watch as it was, but we really did feel for the poor deer), it was a fantastic day in Dublin. I’ll definitely be back to Phoenix Park soon!
