Tall Ships in Belfast 2009
August 14th, 2009
18 years since the last visit of the Tall Ships in Belfast, over 400,000 people are expected to head towards the docks to check them out over the next few days. I was there today, and look forward to going a few more times before the festival closes on Sunday (no ships will be open on Sunday!), next time I’ll bring some money for food and drink, of which there is plenty at the many continental market stalls on both sides of the river, live music and lots of sweet things.
Queues for the ships were pretty long today, probably due to be longer at the weekend, which is why you’ll find me there at 10am Saturday morning!
Festival open times for the next few days are:
Friday 14 August 12noon-9pm
Saturday 15 August 10am-9pm
Sunday 16 August 10am-4pm.
There are also fireworks each night (here’s a video posted from Scott of last night’s fireworks) at 9.10pm.
The GoToBelfast website has the highlights of what’s happening, a map of the area and details of the ships on display. And I very much doubt you’ll find anything in the £5 Tall Ships Programme the Belfast Telegraph are flogging. Hopefully Translink will have better luck at the weekend too. Though not that likely.
