Twitter Lists

November 11th, 2009

Just a quick note on the Twitter lists that were the talk of last week.

twitter listsMany people are seeing it as a popularity thing, or as a marketing thing. Twitter is, always has been, and always will be so many different things to different people. For me, it is so much. Keeping up with general news, tech news, photo news, media news, get information from photographers, photo bloggers, local tech folk, local music folk, Island-wide tech folk, and of course communicating with friends – yes many friends I have met and consider real friends.

I don’t consider myself to have many ‘faces’ on Twitter at all, all of my personalities are on the one account and I put out different information that interests me. However, what if at one time I only want to see certain information, from a particular group of people.

Many people have done this already with Tweetdeck’s groups, though I don’t use that desktop app myself. However, this is just the same, only it’s with you anywhere, and I’m sure soon all the apps will incorporate this.

It’s not something I plan on spending a lot of time on, and haven’t even used it that often really and my lists are in no way a popularity thing at all. If I want to check out what my friends are up to without interuptions from BBC News or Techmeme, I can simply click my ‘Beautiful People’ list and only see those selected people.

I don’t care how many lists I’m on – though I enjoy the fact that I’ve been put on lists ranging from ‘geek’, ‘northern ireland folk’, ‘photographers’, ‘bloggers’ and ‘cool people’ – though I’ve found it can help me filter what I don’t want to read at a given moment.
