Off to Paris for the weekend

November 18th, 2009

At 16.40pm tomorrow afternoon I will be on an aeroplane heading to Paris. My first time outside Ireland in 2 years (but not first time on a plane in that time)!

The reason for my visit is for Paris Photo, the international annual photography festival. I’m making the trip with my University class and will return on Sunday, I can only assume much too inspired to be able to comprehend it. Possibly.

I don’t know much about the festival, though from what I’ve read and heard it appears to be a pretty big deal, with an expected 38,000 visitors, 89 galleries and 13 publishers from 23 countries. I don’t think I’ll be able to set my notepad and pen down for this – I don’t think I’ll want to.

Armed with cameras and my iTouch, I will be offline until my return on Sunday night, and mostly offline – unless I find wi-fi spots. On my return I expect to have far too many photos for my memory cards to hold (shouldda bought more!), and much of my – limited – time in the days after will be spent editing those images.

I’d love to hear some suggestions of things to see and do around the centre of the city for when I have some spare time away from the Festival, which takes place Carrousel du Louvre, the large underground exhibition space and shopping mall attached to the Louvre museum. Thanks to those who suggested places already on Twitter, all noted!

Here are a few photographs I took when I was last there in 2004:

Be interesting to see your pics this time! You might have improved? Or different style developed in last 5 years? Also please look for Thiery and do a number on him!
