Geoff Gatt – Ten Year Road
December 19th, 2009

Geoff Gatt released his long awaited album last week. Named ‘Ten Year Road’, and covering, through song the past ten years, the album spans a number of emotions and events in Geoff’s life from the death of his brother to being in love.
Known for his ukulele and such hilarity as ‘Hippos in the Shower’ the musical which he wrote and brought to the Edinburgh Festival after a number of sell-out shows in Belfast, Geoff’s talents are wide-ranging including acting in a number of local films such Hunger (2008), about Irish republican hunger striker Bobby Sands. An all-round entertainer, Geoff started out busking on the streets of Belfast, picking up a number of talented musicians along the way, many of whom help out on the album.
From the sweet ‘Young and Silly’ to the unexpected aggressive and angry ‘Christ’, a voice that sends a chill when you realise how genuine are his songs. Love, laughter, fun frolicking remain themes throughout, with only the occasional sombre tone. Played on the night as per the album running order, and line-up changes on each song, it was great to see the talent from each musician who worked with Geoff.
The venue was full to capacity and a great energy and love could be felt – friends and those who met Geoff through some form of artistic endeavour or other; they gathered around him after the show to offer congratulations on a great performance, and on finally getting the album recorded and out there. There were album covers signed.
The album is currently available from the Buised Fruit online store and due on iTunes in the new year.
