The Samuel Becket Bridge

January 29th, 2010

While in Dublin last weekend I got some shots of the newly opened Samuel Becket Bridge, joining Sir John Rogerson’s Quay on the south side of the River Liffey to Guild Street and North Wall Quay in the Docklands area.

It’s a beautiful piece of engineering – saw it a few weeks ago just before it opened – but what’s the point of the swivel? Surely any boats which can get under the O’Connell St Bridge can get under this. Am I missing something?
