Madrid – El Rastro

June 4th, 2010

It was to be the last thing we were to do before hopping on a plane home. That was until the Ash Cloud came to save the day; extending the holiday by three glorious days.

The El Rastro flea-market at La Latina is a mass gathering of people filling a huge area and converting a number of streets into pedestrianised zones each Sunday morning. A huge number of stalls selling anything, everything, and the usual market-type stuff; incense, band tees, jeans, shoes, items that say “Spain”, belts, wallets and a number of other items that will be attractive to someone with no taste, in need of some junk, or a shit souvenir.

Not to mention the area with the real ‘odds and ends’, including rusted swords…

The sea of people that can be seen from one end of Calle de la Ribera de Curtidores to the other is an impressive sight, not to mention those on the few streets that split of from that. Fun to see so many people in one place, just don’t expect to find anything useful.
