That was 2010
December 31st, 2010
Sometimes it’s possible to look at someone from across a bed and say out loud ‘Wow’, following possibly by pinching yourself once or twice. This may or may not have happened in the course of the past year.
It’s difficult to describe a year in a small number of eloquently-put words. Though without taking time every so often to reminisce, recollect and judge a period of my life every so often, it all just becomes one. Not that I don’t often think at the end of the day “That day was shit”, but you get the picture.
One of my New Year’s Decisions for this year was to write more, and I did write more, but it just isn’t something that comes to me as easily as I’d like. Sentences don’t just form as I’d like. In saying that, I feel I made quite good on this plan and will be carrying it through to the year which follows.
This year I made some friends, lost some friends (some don’t realise it yet, but you’re dicks!) and discovered new things about myself. So this is the part where things will likely get very subtle, however, for those who know, this year was very significant for me in many ways, certain people were especially significant, and I hope they will only continue to be. I haven’t changed, but realised this year that I can be who I want to be. No one can stop me.
I can do what I want. I can act the way I want and do what makes me happy. I won’t be judged. To those who do, I have a simple “fuck you” as my response.
Those who mind don’t matter, those who matter don’t mind
Knowing that is most of the battle.
There’s just something about taking no shit, as a general rule, that is highly empowering and definitely recommended.
It was a year of lots of new music, and lots of obsessing over certain music, including listening to far too much of the musicians behind the albums on the list in my previous post. Then there were the artists I saw live: Angus & Julia Stone, The National, Massive Attack, Yann Tiersen, Midlake, David Ford and others.
Hanging out with Valérie-Anne was a lot of fun, in Madrid and traveling around France (including La Route Du Rock festival). Brittany was lovely, and having a native guide was even better. France is such a lovely place and I hope to get back again this year, possibly to Nantes this time!
This year also included a lot of major budgeting of monies. You see, I have none. Or at least no more than required to get by, if even that. And so this next year will require continued budgeting, and more. I’ll attempt to blog progress and ideas which I failed to do this year.
I did however learn to not rely on microwaveable meals and takeaway food so much this year. My progress in cooking has impressed me, and others. I’m happy with what I can do, and hope to improve only further.
I have a lot to do over the next year, with regards university work, and a plethora of online and offline projects. In short, I’m happy with the way this year went, the outlook I have gained, friends I’ve made, and the loss of those whom I don’t give a fuck about anyway. A year can be a long time, when you continue to learn about yourself everyday it does help to put it all into perspective. The plan is to keep going. Never stop. I don’t plan on stopping any time soon.
Thanks to everyone, online and off, for being yourselves.
