The Irish Blog Awards Are Dead

April 1st, 2011

Without getting too sentimental about the whole affair, I’m sad to see the end of the Irish Blog Awards, however, I’ve said many times (see the appropriately tagged posts) that each year has been better that the last, for many different reasons. Having been one of very few to have gone to every Bloggers’ piss-up [...]

Belfast From Above — Irish Blog Awards 2011 Photo-walk Pt.4

March 31st, 2011

The final stop of the #IBA11Photowalk was the roof of the Europa hotel, the venue of the night’s event. I’d been to the top of the Europa hotel in the past, though not in daylight so it was great to see the whole of the city from such a perspective.

Irish Blog Awards 2011 Photo-walk Pt.1 — City Hall

March 28th, 2011

Traditionally, we photo-bloggers would organise a photo-walk on the afternoon of the Irish Blog Awards, though this year, DavyMac did an amazing job of putting together a brilliant itinerary of a number of Belfast’s renowned sites. Many thanks go out to Caroline Dixon of the Belfast City Council, Fiona Ure of the Belfast Visitor & [...]

#IBA10

March 31st, 2010

It wouldn’t be the Irish Blog Awards without the usual bitching about the winners, the backslapping, backstabbing, talk of cliques, the whole charade. The fact that they weren’t nominated, didn’t win, weren’t put in the correct category, a whole host of other pathetic excuses for why this event which has brought many people together should [...]

Blog Awards 2010 (are soon)

March 13th, 2010

Blogging is no longer seen as a “thing nerds do”, but a way for anybody and everybody to have a voice, and in some cases, that voice can be very important and in powerful, such as when speech and liberties are limited. But for the rest of us, creating and sharing content is important. A [...]

Blogs Are Dead, So We’re Having Another Party

January 18th, 2010

The Irish Blog Awards season has come around once again. The awards ceremony/piss-up that celebrates a communication medium that is dead. Or so we’ve been told, most notably in a post on Twenty Major’s blog by Una Mullally, ex-blogger and Sunday Tribune columnist, stating that some of the few blogs that she used to read [...]

The Liberties Photo Walk (and IWA09)

October 14th, 2009

Admittedly it took a couple of days to recover from the incredible Irish Web Awards on Saturday evening. Simply because Damien knows how to get a bunch of people of similar interest in a room, give out some awards and let everyone have a good time. It always works. This one was no different. I [...]

February 17th, 2009

I made it into the finals YEOO! Thanks to everyone who voted so well, it’s much appreciated. Whether or not I make it any further I know I will enjoy this week. I will be needing a new badge now I think. Surely Alexia has one for you too. That time of the year has [...]

Irish Blog Awards Noms ’09 – Let the Bitching Commence

January 20th, 2009

Watch as the blog post rates increase dramatically, lots of link love, memes, posts with some thought, topical entries, and maybe even a few redesigns over the next 4 weeks, as these are possibly the most important days in the life of an Irish Blogger, with the Blog Awards just around the corner and the [...]
